Adults Only & Buffet-Free: The Boutique Vibe of Virgin Voyages

Let’s talk about something I’ve been recommending more and more lately: Virgin Voyages. And no, this isn’t your typical mega-ship cruise experience. Think less family chaos, more boutique hotel vibes, except you’re floating through the Caribbean with a cocktail in hand.

If you’ve ever wished for a cruise where you could actually relax without dodging strollers or waiting in endless buffet lines, this is it. Virgin Voyages stripped away everything that makes traditional cruising feel… well, exhausting, and rebuilt it from scratch with adults in mind.

What Makes Virgin Voyages Different?

Here’s the thing: Virgin Voyages isn’t trying to be all things to all people. It’s strictly 18+. No kids. No teens. No family game shows by the pool. Just grown-ups who want to unwind, eat incredible food, and not hear “Baby Shark” on repeat.

The ships feel more like a sleek design hotel than a floating resort. The cabins are modern and spacious. The public spaces are stylish without being stuffy. And the vibe? It’s sophisticated but not pretentious, think upscale without the dress code drama.

You’ll find passengers ranging from their 30s to 60s, which creates this perfect mix of energy and chill. People are here to have a good time, whether that’s lounging by the pool with a book, hitting a yoga class on the upper deck, or dancing late into the night.

The Food Scene: Where Virgin Voyages Really Shines

Okay, let’s get to the real star of the show: the food. And I’m not talking about cruise ship food. I’m talking about legitimately excellent dining that rivals what you’d find at upscale restaurants on land.

Virgin Voyages ditched the buffet entirely. Instead, you’ve got over 20 different restaurants, all included in your cruise fare. No upcharges. No specialty dining fees. Just reservations and really good meals.

Some of my favorite spots onboard:

  • The Test Kitchen – Their tasting menu changes regularly and features creative, chef-driven dishes you won’t find anywhere else
  • Pink Agave – Modern Mexican cuisine with incredible ceviches and table-side guacamole (yes, it’s as good as it sounds)
  • Extra Virgin – Italian fare that focuses on fresh ingredients and simple, perfect execution
  • The Wake – Asian-inspired dishes with bold flavors and beautiful presentations
  • Razzle Dazzle – A theatrical steakhouse experience where the entertainment is built into the meal

Every single dish is made to order. You’re not grabbing pre-made food under heat lamps. You’re sitting down, browsing a real menu, and having servers bring you restaurant-quality meals throughout your voyage.

What’s Actually Included?

Here’s where Virgin Voyages really stands out in terms of value. When you book, you’re not just getting a cabin and access to the ship. You’re getting:

  • All dining at those 20+ restaurants (seriously, eat wherever you want, whenever you want)
  • WiFi throughout the ship (finally, a cruise where you can actually stay connected without paying extra)
  • Group fitness classes including yoga, HIIT, and cycling
  • Basic beverages including sodas, still and sparkling water, and drip coffee
  • Gratuities (they’re already built in, so no awkward envelope stuffing at the end)

This all-inclusive approach means you can actually relax and enjoy your vacation without constantly calculating what everything costs. Want to try a different restaurant every night? Go for it. Feel like taking a morning yoga class followed by an afternoon spin session? It’s all there.

The Atmosphere: Peaceful Without Being Boring

One of the biggest surprises for first-time Virgin Voyages passengers is how peaceful the ships feel. Without kids running around, the pool decks are actually relaxing. You can read a book without interruption. Conversations at dinner stay at a civilized volume.

But peaceful doesn’t mean boring. There’s still plenty happening onboard:

  • Late-night entertainment including live music, DJ sets, and themed parties
  • The Manor – an exclusive nightclub space with craft cocktails and a speakeasy vibe
  • Performances and shows that feel more Broadway than cruise ship variety hour
  • Wellness programming from meditation sessions to sound baths

The vibe is sophisticated but fun. You can be as social or as low-key as you want. Some nights you’ll want to dress up and hit the late-night scene. Other nights, you’ll grab dinner and retreat to your cabin with a glass of wine. Both are completely acceptable here.

Who Is This Perfect For?

Virgin Voyages attracts a specific type of traveler, and chances are, if you’re still reading this, you’re one of them:

  • Couples looking for a romantic getaway without the family cruise atmosphere
  • Friend groups who want to travel together but still have their own space
  • Solo travelers (there are even solo cabins designed specifically for individual travelers)
  • Foodies who actually care about what they’re eating on vacation
  • Anyone who’s tried traditional cruising and found it… overwhelming

It’s not ultra-luxury in the traditional sense: you won’t find caviar service and butler suites as standard. But it delivers high-end value in all the ways that actually matter: excellent food, included amenities, adult atmosphere, and a genuinely relaxing experience.
